Preeti Font Typing

Preeti Font Typing is a free, open-ended typing area with a virtual Preeti Traditional keyboard. Unlike the timed typing test, there is no timer, no passage, and no results — just a space to type freely in Preeti font.

The tool has two modes accessible via the toggle above the typing area:

• Preeti Font mode: Your physical keyboard maps directly to Preeti characters. The virtual keyboard shows the layout for reference (in highlight-only mode).
• Unicode Font mode: Click keys on the virtual keyboard to insert Devanagari Unicode characters. The text is standard Unicode Nepali.

Preeti is the most widely used traditional Nepali font. It uses a fixed keyboard mapping based on Nepali typewriters. When you type in Preeti layout, each key press produces a specific Nepali character rendered by the Preeti font.

Preeti is used in government offices, Lok Sewa Aayog (Nepal PSC) typing tests, schools, and publishing houses in Nepal.

The Preeti Traditional keyboard layout maps keyboard keys to Nepali characters based on traditional Nepali typewriter conventions.

Key features:

• Fixed mapping: Each key produces a specific Nepali character in Preeti encoding
• Includes Shift key combinations for additional characters
• Alt key shortcuts for special vowels (ऊ, औ, आ)
• Shift + number keys produce Devanagari digits (१, २, ३...)

Use the virtual keyboard on screen as a layout reference while typing.

The toggle at the top of the typing area switches between two modes:

Preeti Font mode (default): Type using your physical keyboard with the Preeti Traditional layout. The virtual keyboard shows key positions for reference but does not insert characters directly — your keyboard handles input.

Unicode Font mode: The virtual keyboard inserts Devanagari Unicode characters when you tap or click keys. Text-to-Speech is also available in Unicode mode.

Both modes share the same typing area — you can switch at any time without losing your text.

Yes. In Unicode Font mode, the text is standard Devanagari Unicode and can be copied and pasted into any modern application (MS Word, Google Docs, WhatsApp, etc.) without needing the Preeti font installed.

In Preeti Font mode, the text is stored as ASCII characters that display as Nepali only when the Preeti font is applied. If you paste this text elsewhere, it will appear as English letters unless the Preeti font is available.

Use the Copy button in the toolbar for quick copying.

No installation needed! This tool loads the Preeti font automatically via web fonts. Your browser renders Preeti characters correctly without any setup.

If you want to use Preeti in other applications (MS Word, LibreOffice, etc.) you will need to install it on your computer. Download the font from the About Preeti Font section on this page.

Yes! On mobile:

• Switch to Unicode Font mode and tap keys on the virtual keyboard to type Devanagari Unicode characters.
• Connect a physical USB keyboard via OTG cable for the full Preeti Traditional layout experience.
