The shift to Nenglish in everyday Nepali communication has accelerated sharply with smartphone adoption across Nepal. A large proportion of informal digital communication between Nepali speakers — WhatsApp messages, Facebook comments, Instagram captions — is now written not in Devanagari Nepali but in Romanised Nenglish: "Kasto cha bhai?", "Meeting cancel bhayo yaar", "Aaja dherai busy chu."
This created a practical problem for anyone outside that bilingual bubble. A family member living abroad. A researcher studying Nepali digital communication. A language learner reading Nepali social media. A non-Nepali colleague receiving a message from a Nepali friend. None of them can reliably decode "Hijo office ma dherai kaam thiyo" without help.
We built this Nenglish to English translator because we saw that demand clearly in the questions and feedback reaching us. The tool needed to understand not just individual Nepali words written in Roman letters, but the code-switching pattern — Nepali grammar mixed with English vocabulary, all written phonetically. That is what makes Nenglish distinct, and what makes a dedicated translator necessary rather than a simple dictionary lookup.
