For most of EasyNepaliTyping.com's history, the primary direction of conversion was clear: people needed to write Nepali in Devanagari without a special keyboard. But as Nenglish established itself as the dominant informal register among younger Nepali speakers, we started hearing a different need — from users who write in formal Devanagari Nepali and want to communicate with an audience that prefers Nenglish.
A teacher wanting to write an informal note to students. A parent texting their university-age child. A content creator adapting a formal Nepali post for social media. A public institution trying to reach younger citizens in the register they actually use. In each case, the challenge is the same: they have content in Devanagari Nepali, and they need it in the casual Romanised Nenglish that feels natural in digital conversations.
We built this Nepali to Nenglish translator to serve exactly that conversion direction. The interesting technical challenge here is producing Nenglish output that reads naturally — not a mechanical transliteration, but the kind of Roman-script Nepali that a bilingual speaker would actually write. That means making choices about which English words to borrow, how to handle Nepali-specific sounds in Roman letters, and how to reflect the informal register that defines Nenglish.
