As Nenglish became the dominant informal register among younger, urban Nepali speakers, it created an unexpected communication gap in the other direction: between generations. Older Nepali speakers, teachers, and professionals comfortable with formal Devanagari Nepali found themselves increasingly unable to read messages written in Romanised Nenglish. "Kasto cha?" is recognisable to most, but "Malai deadline extend garnu parchha" or "Presentation ready cha, bas review baaki cha" are much harder to parse without context.
We built this Nenglish to Nepali translator to bridge exactly that gap — converting Nenglish written in Roman letters into the standard Devanagari Nepali that formal readers are comfortable with. It is also useful for Nepali language learners who want to understand what a Nenglish message says in proper, grammatically structured Nepali, and for anyone who needs to convert informal Nenglish notes into the Devanagari script required for official, educational, or publishing use.
The core technical challenge was significant: Nenglish has no fixed spelling standard. The same Nepali word may be romanised a dozen different ways depending on the speaker's region and style. Our translation engine is built to handle that variability and produce consistent, accurate Devanagari output regardless of how the Nenglish input is spelled.
